Leonardo DiCaprio Named As One Of The World's Top Art Collectors; TBT On his Art Collection

Leonardo DiCaprio is known for his passion to collect Art works. He is now part of the elite ranks of the top art collectors all over the world.

LA Times says that it is the first time that Leonardo DiCaprio has been included in the annual 200 list of the NY Publication. The 2015 list is compiled and published by ARTnews magazine. The pubication was released on Tuesday. Other names included are the everlasting high-profile Paul Allen (Microsoft Co-founder), Stve A. Cohen (hedge fund magnate), and of course the billionaire Eli Board.

It is reported that DiCaprio's collection are mostly contemporary arts including comics, rare books, and fossils. According to ARTnews magazine, one of DiCaprio's first major purchases was a Basquiat drawing. Then later on, added in his collection are the works of Andreas Gursky, Ed Ruscha, Elizabeth Peyton, Pablo Picasso, Takashi Murakami, Sarah Lucas and some others.

Aside from Leonardo, there are newcomers who are added on the list of World's Top Art collectors. As per report of Financial review, the 25th Annual list have 23 newcomers that are coming from Asia, America (North & South), Europe, and Middle East. Still in the rank are Billionaires Eli Broad and Norman Braman together with 11 more from the annual list since 1990. "It creates the best picture we can of the spectrum of the top collectors globally across collecting categories," said Sarah Douglas, editor-in-chief of ARTnews.

Some of his valuable collections begin with Frank Stella, "Double Gray Scramble" (1973), Andreas Gursky, "Ocean V" (2010), Takashi Murakami, "Mononoke" (2013), Pablo Picasso, "Fillette" (1939-40), Oscar Murillo, "Untitled" (Drawings off the wall) (2011), Walton Ford, "The Tigress" (2013), Robert Crumb, "Mr. Natural" (1976), Jean-Michel Basquiat, "Untitle" (Boxing Ring) (1981), "Metropolis" (1927) Heinz Schulz-Neudamm design minus the German writing, Ed Ruscha, "Standard Station" (1966), Urs Fischer, "Good Problem" (2015), Elizabeth Peyton, "Leonardo" (2013), Leonardo Da Vinci, "Annunciation" (1475), and so many more.

The Hollywood actor regularly visits Art Basel in Switzerland and Miami.
