Star Wars fans may find it a shock when they hear the recent rumors surrounding "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It seems that the upcoming movie will see the demise of either Han Solo or Chewbacca, two well-loved characters in the Star Wars universe.
A source told Epicstream the bad news, claiming that he spoke to a fellow supporting actor who was reportedly involved in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The source's revelation was about a scene he saw being filmed at an airbase. The source said: "He watched a scene being shot at Greenham common airbase in which Leia is sad and says 'I don't know how he will cope without him', my source told me Han Solo dies, I quizzed him and he said he just presumed, I then asked who was she talking to, he said a couple of Wookiees but now Chewy, I asked him could you have meant that Chewy dies, he said that might of been the case, he didn't know just that one of them does.'"
It is unclear whether Han Solo or Chewbacca will die in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Epicstream said that this may or may not be true. However, the site also noted that it will not be a surprise if Han Solo ends up dead. Harrison Ford, who plays Han Solo, reportedly suggested the character's death in "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi." However, George Lucas decided against it.
The site Dork Side of the Force even conducted an interesting debate amongst two of their writers, asking whether Han Solo should die in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The "Light Side" noted that Han Solo is one of the beloved characters in the Stars Wars fandom. The writer added that the "galaxy needs Han Solo" citing his special brand of flying and expert maneuvering around the Death Star.
On the other hand, the "Dark Side" argued that Han Solo's death has been "overdue for about 30 years." The writer cited Ford's disappointment on how his role turned out in "Episode VI." The writer added that Ford has already reached the point wherein he is "so out of it and disinterested" with his Star Wars character.
Meanwhile, should Chewbacca bite the dust in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the Wookie will be getting his own comic book series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Entertainment will be releasing a five-issue spotlight on Chewbacca. The comic book series is slated to be released in October.
Only time will tell whether the death of either of these characters is true. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is scheduled to hit movie theaters on December 18, 2015.
