Not a lot is known about the storyline and characters that will be featured in Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man" reboot. Although latest rumors suggest that "Kraven the Hunter" may be Peter Parker's nemesis in the upcoming movie.
The rumors started when a source told Heroic Hollywood that Sony's Vice President of Creative Affairs, Karen Moy, bought a trade paperback copy of "Kraven's Last Hunt" on Amazon last week. And while there may be many reasons as to why the Sony executive made the purchase, such as a gift or for her own reading pleasure, the source revealed that Sony folks buys books or materials for their own copy even if it's for research purposes.
The site conducted further investigations and found out, via the leaked Sony emails database at Wikileaks, that the Sony VP Moy previously made book purchases on Amazon for her former boss Amy Pascal. This led the site to think that Moy bought the trade paperback for "anything other than research purposes" and that Sony is looking into "the possibility of Kraven as their bad guy."
The rumors were met with mixed reactions, with Cinema Blend stating that the character would be a "terrible choice for a villain." The site stated that "Kraven the Hunter" was first introduced into the Marvel Universe as a big game hunter. The comic book story goes on how Kraven went to New York City to track and capture the man known as Spider-Man. This quest was to prove that he's the world's greatest hunter. However, given the information available about the "Spider-Man" reboot, wherein Jon Watt's will introduce a younger Peter Parker, Kraven won't be an ideal nemesis for the movie. Cinema Blend explained, "For starters, by hiring Tom Holland and going after a younger Spider-Man, we're accepting the fact that the hero isn't established yet. He's still finding his way as a crime-fighter... so how would Kraven know about him? Why would hunting and capturing this version of Spider-Man be any sort of prize for the famed Hunter?"
Sony, Marvel or movie director Watts have yet to comment on the rumors.
Movie fans will have to wait for further updates about the film to confirm the news. "Spider-Man" is expected to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
