Robert De Niro and Wife Struggle to Find New Condo After Fire Gutted New York City Home

After a fire broke out at his home and destroyed several floors of his building in June, Robert De Niro has moved out of his Central Park West apartment because it is "not livable," according to the New York Post.

The star and his wife, Grace Hightower are now having a tough time finding another five bedroom pad in New York that is suitable for them.

The fire that erupted when De Niro was out of the country, spread to every apartment on the fifth floor of 88 Central Park West, where homes sell for as much as $25 million. According to the Post, the fire was caused by a lint buildup in clothes dryer.

The couple is now reportedly undergoing a gut renovation that could take up to three years to finish, and are struggling to find a new place to live in the meantime.

The NY Post reported that De Niro has signed the lease to rent a 64th floor pad at the Park Imperial. The apartment has been on the market for $100,000 a month and once belonged to Jcob "Kobi" Alexander, a fugitive software tycoon who is allegedly on the run in Namibia after he was fined millions of dollars after a SEC investigation.

But the deal for the apartment didn't go through for actor as he has hoped.

"There was an issue with misrepresentation of the apartment and they managed to get out of the lease. The apartment went back on the market two days ago," a source told the NY Post.

Hightower has been telling her friends that she and her husband are still searching for a five bedroom rental with lots of closet space, the NY Post confirmed.
