After news broke out that Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have confirmed to reprise their roles for the "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel, another person might be on board. James Foley was recently offered by Universal to direct the upcoming two films of the sequel, "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed."
Earlier this year, Sam Taylor-Johnson declared that she will not direct the upcoming two installments of the novel-based sequel "Fifty Shades of Grey." After the director backed out, productions for the movie were halted, pending deals for Universal in finding someone to partake in the role.
However, Variety recently reported that Universal might have found a new director to aid the making of "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed."
James Foley, the director of various 1980s and 1990s' films such as "After Dark My Sweet," "At Close Range," "Freed," "Reckless," and the latest Netflix movie "House of Cards," was offered the job. The other two choices of directors for the upcoming films were Mark Wellington and Tanya Wexler.
As Screen Rant reported, Universal and Foley are currently under negotiations for his participation in the upcoming two installments of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
He has not directed a feature film since 2007; his last was the movie "Perfect Strangers" which was starred by Bruce Willis and Halle Berry.
If Foley confirms his role in the installments, casting for the upcoming "Fifty Shades Darker" will continue. The lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastacia Steele have been confirmed to be reprised by Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, respectively.
The movie will also be produced by the novel's author E.L. James, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. The script writer will be James' husband, Niall Leonard.
The production for the second installment for "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel "Fifty Shades Darker" will commence during the first quarter of 2016, while its release will be on February 14, 2017. Furthermore, the third installment "Fifty Shades Freed" will hit the screens on February 9, 2018.
