Universal Studios' "Jurassic World" sequel has reached the $1 billion mark at the international box office, becoming the fourth title to achieve the milestone.
The film joins movies that hit the 10-figure mark like "Avatar" ($2.027 billion), "Titanic" ($1.528 billion) and Universal's own "Furious 7" ($1.162 billion), Cinema Blend reported.
In terms of worldwide grosses, "Jurassic World" became the third-biggest film earning $647.5 million in North America and $1.64 billion worldwide, trailing behind is "Avatar" at $2.79 billion and "Titanic" at $2.19 billion, The Wrap revealed.
Universal announced that the film crossed $6 billion in global box office receipts that included $2.157 billion domestically and $3.886 billion internationally. In the past month, the studio also surpassed Fox for worldwide grosses in a year reaching to $5.53 billion.
The movie is dubbed as the fastest movie to cross $1 billion internationally for just 13 days. It had the biggest opening weekend at domestic, international and worldwide box offices, reaching a $523.7 million in total.
According to the Deadline, Universal is the first studio to have three films gross $1 billion at the worldwide box office at the same year which includes the films "Furious 7" and "Minions."
"When we opened the film, we never expected to get to $1 billion but we knew we had the goods along with tremendous support from marketing and filmmakers who gave us everything," Duncan Clark, president of distribution for Universal Pictures International said, according to Variety. "It became a movie for teens and the entire family in every country."
"Jurassic World" is a sequel to Steven Spielberg's 1993 dinosaur sci-fi classic. The latest film is directed by Colin Trevorrow, starred by Chris Pratt and Dallas Bryce Howard and was produced by Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley and Spielberg with a $150 million production budget.
Another sequel is set for June of 2018 where Pratt, Howard and most of the cast will return. Trevorrow, who co-wrote "Jurassic World" with Derek Connolly, will also write the script of the upcoming sequel. Director wasn't set yet.
