Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he has settled legal disputes with NBCUniversal and has bought out NBC's portion of the Miss Universe Organization.
The Presidential candidate tweeted saying, “Now own 100% – stay tuned.” NBC confirmed that they have sold their half of the pageant rights to Trump, Deadline reported.
NBCUniversal cut business ties with Trump due to his controversial claims during his campaign launch calling undocumented Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and “criminals.”
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” NBC said in a June statement. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”
With that Trump threatened to sue them and responded saying, “If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court.”
After settling legal issues with NBC, the billionaire also added he would follow his $500 million lawsuit against Univision. Trump's $10 million lawsuit against Univision is still ongoing which was shifted to federal court on July 10.
Trump sued Univision when they expressed that they would not broadcast the pageant despite the deal they had with the real estate mogul.
“At Univision we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” the company said in a statement. ”We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”
Meanwhile, Trump lamented that the contestants, whom he described as “51 wonderful girls” were being "abandoned." He also added that "what NBC and Univision did to these young women was disgraceful,” Trump said in June when the hosts and telecast partners departed from the Miss Universe.
