'Koei Tecmo' Revives 'Nioh' Exclusive for PlayStation 4 in 2016

War Games and Role-playing games fanatics will be excited as KOEI Tecmo has announced that the company will revive "Nioh." The release of the video game will still be in 2016 and it is exclusive for PlayStation 4 only.

Anime News Network says that KOEI Tecmo Games has announced that the company would revive the RPG "Nioh" in 2016 during the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia press conference in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday. KOEI has also presented to the audience in the conference its teaser trailer of the game's "dark warring-states action."

In the teaser, it has been seen that the "game follows William, a blond-haired, blue-eyed samurai who arrived in Japan during the Age of Warring States, when the land was beset with supernatural entities."

It is also reported that the general producer of KOEI Tecmo Games, Kou Shibusawa, has been personally working on the said RPG, together with Team Ninja. It has been recalled also that prior to company's merging with Tecmo, "KOEI had previously announced the game, then Romanized as Ni-Oh, as a PlayStation 3 release in 2004. "Back then, the concept of the video game was based on the brainchild of late acclaimed film director Akira Kurosawa (The Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Ran)."

Destructoid gives a brief description of the trailer, stating that the aside from the fight scenes, there were also "some gruesome monsters, a spirit floating around, and an evil-lookin' lady tongue." It has also been said that it would be impossible to clear [the game] on a first try. In addition, Gaming Bolt states that this RPG is a "very typical game" but at the same time interesting for it to re-emerge after its first launched in PS3. "Why Koei Tecmo has chosen to resurrect the project for PS4 remains to be seen, as well as whether it was worth the effort, but it's good news for Japanese gamers all the same."

Now, aside from "Nioh", KOEI Tecmo Games has also revealed during the conference the release of the "Toukiden" sequel for PSP and PlayStation Vita.
