"Doctor Who" faces a familiar foe once again as a "magician's apprentice" comes to his aid. Another enemy is back but this time to help save the Doctor.
"Doctor Who" season 9 opener called "The Magician's Apprentice" shows a battlefield where a young boy who has obviously been around such scenes for quite some time is stopped by a soldier who thought he was lost and needed help. According to Forbes, the soldier tells the boy that he should not be walking in that area because it was littered with mines. What the gallant warrior did not notice is that one of the "hand mines" has already latched on his feet and the boy was staring at him as if waiting to see what would happen next.
In the same review by Forbes, the soldier meets his demise and the Doctor arrives asking the boy his name. It is then revealed that the young boy he helps is actually "Davros," the man who is the creator of Doctor Who's long-time nemesis, the Daleks. However, it is not just the maker of the Daleks he is going to face.
Another enemy who has been dead for some time has managed to resurrect herself -- Missy. But unlike her previous appearances wherein her goal was to destroy the good Doctor, this time around she wants to help him. In a report by Entertainment Weekly, Missy is the female version of The Master and the last time she appeared in a sequence for the series, she was killed and got vaporized. She deadpanned the shock of Doctor Who when she told him, "Not dead. Back. Big surprise. Never mind."
While fans welcome back with excitement the return of one of Doctor Who's most formidable foes, critics see a problem brewing with Companion "Clara" who is cast aside unintentionally in her argument with Missy about where to seek out the Doctor. The matter is settled later on as "Clara Oswald" dies again and with actress Jenna Coleman's announcement of her departure from the show, it figures if it is the last time fans see her.
