It appears that "The Last of Us 2" is currently not undergoing development, but rumor has it that there will be a new update soon.
An interview with Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann has given some clarity to all the Last of Us sequel speculations and rumors. Back in June, voice actor Nolan North who played Joel in the original, very casually let slip that Naughty Dog was working on a sequel to their critical and commercial hit, as was stated in a report by Prayerapp.
"The Last of Us" is a game that has evolved through time. Druckmann said that the company is currently brainstorming for a short version and prototype of "The Last of Us 2." Druckman further added that work began on Uncharted 4, in fact, prototypes for several different games were in the works but right now everyone is focused on the next Uncharted.
The showrunners are brainstorming ideas for "The Last of Us 2" with new characters, ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie, ideas for a sci-fi game, ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas, as disclosed by VG247.
The game has been successful on its first run which is why enthusiasts are expecting its comeback. It appears that the creators are already working on some stuff, but does not fully have the full decision on what to do next. In other words, "The Last of Us 2" will probably happen especially since the original sold over 6 million copies, but it's not in active development right now, as explained by VG247.
However, fans can just wait for the right moment for the release and full development of the sequel. While waiting, however, the fans can enjoy once more the original "The Last of Us" since it is currently being discounted on both PS3 and PS4 as of this week.
