Marvel superhero Jessica Jones is ready to throw her weight around this male-dominated superhero universe. She's getting her own show on Netflix, showing this Nov. 20, with actress Krysten Ritter playing the feisty character. As anticipation builds up for the series' debut, Netflix has just released a second trailer. It provides a closer look into the life of Jessica Jones, all in less than 50 seconds.
A brief backgrounder on Jessica Jones: according to Time, her family was killed on a car accident on their way back from their trip at Disney World. Jones was spared, but when she woke up from her coma, she was never the same again. She discovered she had super powers.
She's classmates with Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider Man, and even had a crush on him. When she witnessed a fight between Spider-Man and Sandman, she decided to use her super strength for good and become a superhero, using the alias "Jewel." When her attempt ended tragically, Jones settled into a normal life as a private detective.
Despite her seclusion, her super powers never left her, as seen on the new trailer by Netflix. The short clip starts with a time stamp of 2:59 p.m. in New York. The next scene shows Jones' messy apartment, with clothes strewn all over the floor and an empty Jack Daniel's bottle lying around. The camera pans to the alarm clock -- it sets off at 3:00 p.m. (to the tune of Minnie Riperton's "Loving You"). Our sleeping superhero apparently doesn't want to be disturbed and she shows her super strength to drive the point. Clearly, Jessica Jones is one girl you don't want to mess with.
"Jessica Jones" will debut on Netflix on Nov. 20. The 13-hour-long episodes will also star David Tennant as the villain Kilgrave, Mike Colter as Jones' love interest Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor as Jessica's best friend Trish Walker, and Carrie-Anne Moss as her strongest ally.
This will be Netflix's second Marvel series, after the successful run of "Daredevil." According to The Verge, two more series based on the Marvel universe will be released next year -- Luke Cage will get his own series and "Iron Fist" will be next. These will lead up to "The Defenders," where all four superheroes will join forces.
