On Thursday, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New York, where he was welcomed outside the Walforf Astoria hotel by 500 Indian-Americans. The welcomers chanted "Modi, Modi" outside the Waldorf, where the PM will be staying during his U.S. visit.
The Prime Minister greeted the drummers and dancers and went out of his vehicle waving happily. PM Modi tried to get nearer to the crowd, even as the Secret Service agents scrambled and tried to make a cordon around him.
India's Prime Minister is staying in the Waldorf Hotel which is an iconic hotel that has 26 presidential suites, as well as has a memorabilia on the 35th floor. Among the memorabilia are John F. Kennedy's rocking chair and other U.S. presidents' memorabilia. The hotel is also popular for its eponymous salad, which is always served to all VIP guests like the PM Modi.
Waldorf Hotel's chef, Vikas Khanna, a Michelin executive chef, prepared a six to seven course meal with over 30 Indian food festivals. The dinner meeting at the hotel will be cooked by chefs from top international firms. The dinner will have non-alcoholic drinks, poha, modal, khandvi, dates, thandai. The desserts will be served in fine dining style as well. Among the expected guests are, Pepsi Cola Chief Executive Indra Noovie, Lockheed chairman Marilyn A. Hewson, Mark Fields of Ford Motors, and Jorge Mesquita of Johnson & Johnson.
U.S. Presidents who visit the city for some sessions with the United Nations General Assembly choose The Waldorf Australia. This year, U.S. President Obama and his entourage will be staying at The New York Palace, which breaks the tradition, to give way to the Indian Prime Minister. In the previous year, a Chinese firm also bought the Waldorf Astoria, which triggered possible issues of Chinese hackers breaching U.S. intelligence if President Obama were to stay there.
