Exactly one week to go and "The Walking Dead" is back on the small screen with its thrilling, zombie-killing episodes. Amidst the fan predictions and circulating spoilers, let's check in on three characters who are said to be making big changes in the upcoming sixth season.
Deanna Monroe
She lost her son and husband last season. Now, Deanna is rumored to be shedding off her cool, calm and collected persona and finally embrace being a warrior.
Actress Tova Feldshuh gave her thoughts on the character when she spoke with Entertainment Weekly. "She has a complete understanding now that there has to be a shift in her reality and her point of view of how the world runs in order for her to survive. So we have a woman transitioning from statesman to warrior. What you learned last season was that due process of law, even inside the most civilized community, sometimes doesn't work," she said.
She added that in season six, "her past becomes very vivid and makes a huge change in her path of action."
Glenn Rhee
Actor Steven Yeun is on edge about the fate of his character. In the graphic novel, Glenn Rhee gets beaten up badly by a character named Negan. While "The Walking Dead" has not confirmed the appearance of Negan in season six, the show did confirm the addition of Paul "Jesus" Monroe, to be portrayed by actor Tom Payne. Jesus' character is tied with Negan, so Glenn's feared character must be close behind.
Yeun told the New York Daily News, "Yes, I'm worried about Glenn. But we're still in the middle of filming. There's still a lot of story to tell, and a lot of different stories to tell from the graphic novels."
Carl Grimes
Last season, Carl Grimes ended up getting shot in the face, leaving a huge wound in his head. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show's creator Scott Gimple maintained that in a show like "The Walking Dead," anything is possible. Gimple teased that there could be more to the young boy's storyline in season six.
"There are other things we can and will do. There is a balance to be struck. If it is stuff that's really important to serve the character, we need to try and do it. It's also just if we can pull it off on a consistent basis in a great way. There's stuff we can do, there's stuff we can't do. I would never tell you what it is," he said.
According to Uproxx, Carl's injury may be necessary for the boy's character growth. "A jarring event like this could help push Grimes into adulthood, and further set him apart from the other young people in town," it stated.
"The Walking Dead" season six premieres next Sunday, Oct. 11 on AMC.
