'American Horror Story' Draws Fans and Tourists Alike to Downtown LA's 'Cecil Hotel'

The former Downtown LA's nightmare Cecil Hotel, now known as "The Main Hotel," has become a local tourist' spot. This hotel in L.A. has drawn more fans since the place has inspired the recent episode of "American Horror Story."

LA Curbed reports that Cecil Hotel or The Main Hotel has become the major yourist attraction in Los Angeles.Among the many hotels in L.A., this hotel has a long and sad history considering the suicides and mass murderers that were attached to it. It has been reported that the "hordes of fans" of the "American Horror Story" are not only visiting the place but are also hoping to stay in the bedroom of Elisa Lam. Her body " was found in a cistern atop the Cecil in 2013 and whose strange death inspired the new AHS season, aptly named Hotel."

When the "American Horror Story" had its press conference in Aug., Ryan Murphy- the co-creator of AHS, revealed that the 5th season is inspired by the "surveillance video from a Los Angeles-based hotel that surfaced two years ago. The footage showed a girl in an elevator who was never seen again."

Daily Mail UK Elisa Lam was a Canadian tourist who checked in at Cecil Hotel in Jan. 2012. She had been missing for weeks. Her body was only discovered when one of the customers complained about the foul smell of the water, and it had a funny taste. It was then that Elisa's body was found inside the water tank in the rooftop of the hotel.

Cecil Hotel is believed to be haunted. The death of Elisa is considered proof to that claim, especially when her death could not be explained. "At first, her death was ruled an accidental drowning, but in a video released by the LAPD, the young woman was seen behaving erratically in the lift." It was also thought that she had taken drugs and could be the cause of her death. But there was no trace of drug in her body when the autopsy was undertaken, and how she got onto the roof could not be explained including her behavior. Thus, her death remains a mystery.

Records show that Cecil Hotel was built in 1927.This hotel in L.A has been the scene of the crime for a number of times. Suicides, murders, and disappearances have been housed into this hotel including serial killers. The most famous serial killer being hosted in the place was Richard Ramirez. This American serial killer lived at the roof top "before he was caught and convicted of 13 murders."

This is the reason why people believe that the hotel is very creepy. Nonetheless, tourists are flocking to the place hoping they could sleep in the room of Elisa Lam.
