Nexus 6P vs. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium: Which is Worth the Penny?

Nexus 6P targets customers who are looking for smartphones with a midrange price. But is it worth the money than the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the very first smartphone with 4K display?

Design

Design-wise, the Nexus 6P has a more durable construction than the Z5. It boasts a full metal body made of aluminum. Located over the rear camera is a small glass panel, which is considered as its only point of vulnerability. Fingerprint scanner is also available at the back. It is available in three different colors: graphite, aluminum, and frost.

The Z5 Premium, on the other hand, features a metal frame but the unit's front and back are protected with glass with a glossy finish. Just like the 6P, it also features a fingerprint scanner but it is located at the side with integrated power key. It is available in gold, chrome, and black. Though this unit is waterproof, it does not allow you to submerge it in the water.

Display

The Xperia Z5 is equipped with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. It also features Triluminos color enhancing technology and the X-Reality Engine, which further improve the quality of both photos and videos. The Nexus 6P has a much bigger 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.

Specs

The Sony Z5 is powered by an octa-core processor with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The Nexus 6P has similar chipset, which makes both quite the same when it comes to speed.

Memory

The Z5 Premium is better than the 6P when it comes to memory slots as it supports up to 200GB external storage while the latter does not have slot available. Both units has 3GB RAM on board.

Camera

The Z5 Premium is armed with a 23 megapixel rear camera. It is without a doubt way better than the 12 megapixel camera of Nexus 6P.

Price

Nexus 6P is more budget-friendly as it costs $500 than the $975 price tag of the Xperia Z5 Premium.
