Jennifer Hudson Thanks Son for Giving Her a Chance to Live Again; Now Getting Ready for Broadway

Jennifer Hudson has nothing but praise for the people around her, especially her son, who helped her cope with her loss.

The "Dreamgirls" lead star lost her brother, nephew and mother in 2008 through a horrifying murder done by her former brother-in-law, who was later found guilty and convicted of triple counts of murder. During the ordeal, Jennifer went on hiatus. During an interview with Glamour, sue said that her son, David, keeps her strong and gave her a reason to live. The alum of the "American Idol" admitted that she underwent difficulties during her grief.

"It's frustrating as hell to me to have somebody who ain't lost nothing try to talk to me about it," she explained. "I want to say, 'Don't even bother, because you know nothing.' But you never know how much you can get through until you're going through it." Regardless of her unbearable struggle, Jennifer said she is making her family's memory to see life in a positive way.

"My whole life, through the good things, the bad things, I know nothing is guaranteed. I've seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows and everything in between," she further explained. "But what my mother, my grandmother, and all the powerful women in my family instilled in us - our faith, and how to make it on our own - carries me through. It's like they are very much still here."

Currently, Jennifer is preparing for her first Broadway performance, "The Color Purple," and will later play in Spike Lee's "Chiraq" in a character that is very close to her. The actress said that she could easily sink-in to the role because the subject matter of in the film is close to what she experienced when her family was murdered. She will be playing a mother whose daughter killed by stray bullet, while going to school.
