‘Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans’ Episode 2 Review: The Series Comes with Great Expectations and is Living Up to it

"Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" Episode 2 gets an A rating from the reviews of ANN. As the franchise evolves from its first series launched more than 30 years ago, it has continuously been received warmly by fans and casual viewers.

Anime News Network says that "Gundam" as a franchise has already an "enormous cultural footprint." As it continuously spawn from one series to another, each obviously comes with a set of "great" expectation, which so far has been met by the newest show. It has been recalled that "Gundam: Reconguista in G" was overwrought and "Gundam AGE" was overdesigned.

Report says that a "Gundam storylines must echo a 37-year space opera tradition-complete with an underdog hero, an ambiguous rival, and a constantly shifting set of allegiances to convey that nothing is ever so simple as "good guys vs. bad," in war or in life." Although that is a tall order, but then "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" lives up to that expectation so far. Although, it is too early to say since it just airs its second episode. However, it is being hope that the new series will truly break the mold.

So far, "Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans" appears like it has stored a lot for its viewers. The show gives an impression that "it has something important to say about humanity and uses the lowest denominators of society-orphan lab rats in forced labor conditions-to convey it." In fact the opening theme comes out too bold and strong or even profound with its call to action, giving the audience the impression of an active entertainment.

Reno Gazette-Journal says that "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" second episode is entitled "Barbatos." If this is your first time to watch any "Gundam" series, you need to understand that "Barbatos" in Gundam universe means the main mobile suit. In the current series, it is the new flagship mobile suit. "It's a dangerous double-edged sword, and looks like it just might be capable of literally killing its pilot, at least with the jury-rigged interface that it's using at the moment." The pilot, Mikazuki Augus (who is described as uneducated and illiterate), has to operate the mobile suit properly with the help of its neutral interface.

"Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" episode 2 reveals that the effectiveness of the suit comes with a price. It obviously draws first blood on Mika. This proves the point that the suit is extremely dangerous for the young pilot. It is reported that the new series deals "with some pretty serious and ambitious topics." So far, the current episode has carried off its theme pretty well.
