The character of Haller is schizophrenic, and he's been in-and-out of the psychiatric hospitals since he's been diagnosed of schizophrenia. According to Noah Hawley, who is the executive producer of the upcoming show at the same time who will pen the pilot episode, the show will be more of a standalone story.

In a separate report of We Got This Covered, it says that there are no major crossover of "Legion" with other characters from X-men universe like "Hellfire," which is also being adapted into a TV series with Fox channel. It is clear in the interview of Noah Hawley with TV Insider that the producer will explore more of the character and how he fits in a much bigger universe.
