‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5 Spoilers: Episode 5 Features Emma, Regina Race to Free Merlin; Merida and Gold Train; Henry Asks Violet for a Date

"Once Upon a Time" Season 5 Episode 5 will feature Emma and Regina race against Arthur to break the curse that turned Merlin into a tree.

In the episode aptly titled "The Dreamcatcher," Emma (Jennifer Morrison) uses one of her dreamcatchers to learn more about Merlin (Elliot Knight) in hopes that she finds information that will free him from the curse.

According to the plot synopsis released by ABC, Emma is teaming up with Regina (Lana Parrilla) in search of an important ingredient which will turn Merlin back to his human form. However, this endeavor will prove to be more difficult with Arthur (Liam Garrigan) hot on their trails, as he does not want Merlin freed.

"Once Upon a Time" fans will also see David (Josh Dallas) and Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) in Camelot trying to retrieve the Dark One dagger. Meanwhile, the heroes back in Storybrooke break into Emma's house to find Gold but what they find is her plans for the future instead. So where is Gold?

Gold (Robert Carlyle) is being trained by Merida (Amy Manson) as per Emma's orders. It would seem that the new Dark One is fashioning Gold to be the hero Storybrooke needs.

From previous "OUAT" seasons, it was revealed that before he became the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin/Gold was just a cowardly man. This season, without his powers, Gold becomes vulnerable again and it would seem that Emma wants him to find his courage. Although he does not believe he could be a hero, Merida, the Brave, tries to make him see past his fears.

The next episode of "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 is not just about the plot-twisting scenes. It will also feature how Henry (Jared Gilmore) plans to go out on a date with Violet (Olivia Steele Falconer), with approval from both of his mothers, of course.

Meanwhile, TVLine recently reported that "Once Upon a Time" Season 5B might take a much darker path compared to the first half of the season. According to the site, "OUAT" producers are in the middle of casting a new and notable character, simply known as "Distinguished Gentleman."

"Once Upon a Time" Season 5 Episode 5 will air on ABC in 2016.
