Shondaland and ABC are set to develop "Sill Star-Crossed" TV adaptation.
Variety first broke the news that ABC will continue its successful collaboration with showrunner Shonda Rhimes and her production company, ShondaLand. This is the latest addition to the partnership of Rhimes and ABC. The network is the home of "Grey's Anatomy," its spin-off "Private Practice," "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder."
"Still Star-Across" is based on the young adult novel written by Melinda Taub. The story will start after the death of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, the famed star-crossed lovers created by William Shakespeare.
Now both families decided to end the rivalry between the Montagues and Capulets by "marriage." Prince Escalus has chosen two people close to the star-crossed lovers. This time, it will be Romeo's best friend, Benvolio and Juliet's cousin, Rosaline.
"Still Star-Crossed" is developed by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and writer Heather Mitchell. The trio will produce the series with Michael R. Goldstein of The MrG Production Co.
The outlet also reported that Mitchell will be writing the series and also serve as executive producer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mitchell first worked as a co-producer on "Grey's Anatomy" before she went on getting multiple of roles behind the camera on "Scandal." Later on, she took on the role as a writer, producer, supervising producer and became a co-executive producer.
The series in development is ShondaLand's first dip in the young adult genre, which is quite different from its previous offerings in ABC. Aside from it, the production company has an untitled script about Catholic nuns, another untitled series set in Baghdad, Iraq and the comedy "Trophy Wife."
On the other hand, another Shonda Rhimes-led series entitled "The Catch" will premiere on ABC. It will star Mireille Enos and Peter Krause.
