‘Black Panther’ News: 'They Didn't Get a Horse to Direct Seabiscuit'; Antony Mackie on Getting a Black Director for the Film

The Falcon in Marvel's "Captain America" and Avengers franchise, doesn't really care whether the studio gets an African-American filmmaker to direct the black superhero film, "Black Panther", in 2018.

The actor, during an interview with The Daily Beast for his guesting on promotions for his latest project, "Our Brand is Crisis", said: "I don't think it's important at all. As a director your job is to tell a story." He went on to say, "You know, they didn't get a horse to direct Seabiscuit!"

Mackie continued to say that he didn't care about the director's race, and that he believes it doesn't have anything to do with their ability to make a story. "I think it's all about the director's ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think women can direct men, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends," said Mackie.

"The Our Brand is Crisis" actor has played Falcon in some Marvel movies like "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Mackie also played a supporting role in "The Avengers," and is the only black member of the team.

"Black Panther" will be the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is starred by an African-American superhero, and so far no director has been hired to do the project. Though the actor is dreaming of getting Chadwick Bossman's character in the five picture titular role deal.

Mackie still believes in Marvel, even if he didn't get the part. He praised MCU for "pushing the envelope with characters who look like the people who are going to the movies."

As for the possibility of getting another white filmmaker for the firm, Mackie explained, "I think it's all about the director's ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice." His comments gathered a lot of criticisms in the social media, especially on Twitter.
