Reese Witherspoon Reveals Plans for 'Legally Blonde 3,' Says the World Is Ready for Elle Woods’ Return

After 14 long years, Reese Witherspoon is ready to return as the fan-favorite blonde attorney from "Legally Blonde" if ever the hit film will have a third installment. In a recent interview, the actress talked about a possible "Legally Blonde 3," saying that she is down for bringing Elle Woods' signature bend and snap all the way to the White House.

During an appearance on "Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe," on Oct. 22, Thursday, the 39-year-old actress said: "A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it's kind of great right now because we're talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women."

Witherspoon said it would be "kind of a cool thing" to have her famous character become "a Supreme Court Justice or someone who runs for office, like president," Us Weekly wrote.

Although the idea of having Elle Woods run for president (especially that it's election season) may seem laughable to many at the moment, the movie might just be enough to break down stereotypes about women, not to mention blondes.

"Legally Blonde," which featured the charming Elle Woods trying to get into Harvard Law, was released in 2001 and made $141 million worldwide. Witherspoon last appeared as Elle Woods for the sequel "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" in 2003, which earned $125 million worldwide. The sequel features Woods making her way to DC to pass a bill banning animal testing. The movie was listed by Entertainment Weekly as one of the worst movie sequels ever.

The original movie inspired a straight-to-video spinoff in 2009 as well as a Broadway musical in 2007.

Notably, Witherspoon started producing her own films under Pacific Standard after her increasing frustrations in the lack of roles for women in Hollywood. Her company is behind two hit movies: "Gone Girl" and "Wild," with the latter earning her an Oscar nomination.

Despite her growing interest in having "Legally Blonde 3" back on the screen, she admitted it is all up to MGM, the movie's studio, to bring the hit film back to life.
