'Final Fantasy' Director Explains the Reason Behind the Black Outfits

There is a huge reason why the main characters in the upcoming RPG "Final Fantasy XV" are wearing black outfits and they are more than just cool costumes.

According to Kotaku, "Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata has recently revealed in the reason for the outfits in the game's official forums. Tabata stated (translated), "The clothing worn by the four main characters is the official battle gear of the Kingdom of Lucis."

He added, "Noctis is a member of the royal family and the other three characters are parts of various Lucian national organisations and they are each wearing the specific battle dress relevant to their individual stations."

"Final Fantasy XV" director Tabata was also kind enough to share some game story history. "In the Kingdom of Lucis where our heroes reside, the colour black has historically been treated as a special color. Because of this, the attire of the royal family and those in occupations closely tied to them are unified by having black as a base coloring. This part of the lore is the reason why the outfits of all four main characters are black. For the finished game we also intend on having their clothing having effects in battle and not just being a part of the world and its background."

So the Black outfits aren't uniforms intended for the "Final Fantasy XV" Chocobo Riding and Fishing video posted by Square Enix. The same reason goes for another RPG from Disney and Square Enix, "Kingdom Hearts 3" where Noctis reportedly will also be part of the main cast.

For now, there is still no word regarding the official release date of either "Final Fantasy XV" or "Kingdom Hearts 3." The two upcoming games are expected to be released in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
