"Pitch Perfect 3" movie has been confirmed. The second sequel to 2012's hit musical comedy "Pitch Perfect," the film will be directed again by Elizabeth Banks and written by Kay Cannon. Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow will also be back to reprise their roles as Barden Bellas.
"Pitch Perfect" originally grossed a total of $113 million worldwide after its release, while "Pitch Perfect 2" doubled the digits with a total gross of $286 million worldwide when it was released in May. The ticket sales made the sequel a financial success considering its $29 million budget.
"Pitch Perfect 2" earned Banks, who also played as Gail in the movie, the recognition of having the top domestic opening sales for a newbie director, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Banks will be seen on the big screen soon as Effie Trinket in the last installment of the "Hunger Games" film series. As for the small screen, Banks is reportedly hosting an episode of "Saturday Night Live" in November.
The 41-year-old actress also played the role of Wyldstyle in "The Lego Movie." She has starred in many other hit films, but made her first directorial debut in "Pitch Perfect 2," one of this summer's most popular movies.
While "Pitch Perfect 3" is still a couple of years away, many fans are already making speculations on the plot of the upcoming film, especially the storyline involving the Barden Bellas' careers in the future.
Soraya Nadia McDonald from the The Washington Post shared her thoughts about the upcoming movie. According to her, since the first movie centered on a national championship and the sequel was about an international competition, the characters might become professionals in the third film.
When "Pitch Perfect 3" comes out, Kendrick will be turning 31 and Wilson is going to be 37. Hence, it would be terrible if they would play the role of harassed graduate students in the third installment, McDonald added.
"Pitch Perfect 3" is coming to cinemas in 2017.
