Kristen Stewart Joins 'American Horror Story' Star's Chloe Sevigny in New Psychological Thriller Film

Chloe Sevigny of "American Horror Story" and Kristen Stewart are set to star in the retelling of the controversial slaying of the Bordens.

"Twilight" star Stewart has been in negotiations to be a part of the movie based on the life of Lizzie Borden, who was accused of murdering her parents in the late 1800s. According to Hollywood Reporter, the 25-year-old actress will be playing Bridget Sullivan, the live-in maid of the Borden family.

The lead role of Lizzie Borden will be played by Sevigny. Borden lived in the 19th century in Massachusetts and was accused of killing her parents. The "Big Love" actress was set to take the part of the same character in a Tom Hanks miniseries on HBO but the production never went as planned.

With the script written by Bryce Kass, Pieter Van Hees of "Waste Land" will be directing the psychological thriller, Variety wrote. Playtone will serve as executive producer while Naomi Despres of "Kill the Messenger" is the producer.

Since the incident, people have been fascinated with the events that took place before the gruesome murder up until Lizzie's acquittal. Theories circulated as to who really the killer was and why the parents were killed. Sullivan, whose role Stewart will play, testified during the trial and was said to have been in the house when the murder occurred. In one theory, it is speculated that Bridget and Lizzie are actually lovers.

The controversial slaying even inspired a children's nursery rhyme which starts with "Lizzie Borden took an axe... and gave her mother forty whacks..." The story has also been made the subject of plays, books, magazine articles, a ballet and movies. The latest retelling is the TV Movie "Lizzie Borden Took an Ax," starred by Christina Ricci and released in 2014.

The upcoming psychological thriller film is still in the pre-production stage. More details will be released as the movie production progresses. Before that, Stewart's fans could see their favorite actress in upcoming Woody Allen and Ang Lee movies.
