As HBO announced the premiere dates for some of its late-winter and spring shows, it is revealed that the much-anticipated premiere of "Game of Thrones" Season 6 might be scheduled later than usual.
HBO announced on Oct 29, Thursday the shows that will premiere in February: "Vinyl," "Girls" and "Togetherness." Vinyl, the '70s-inspired drama series by Martin Scorsese, is set to debut on screen on Feb. 14, 2016 with a two-hour premiere episode that would take up HBO's Sunday night time slot.
On the other hand, returning comedies "Girls" and "Togetherness" will be airing a week after "Vinyl," filling out HBO's time slot for at least 10 weeks.
The schedule, according to Entertainment Weekly, will possibly result in a "TV scheduling domino effect."
"Game of Thrones" usually starts late March or early Apri. For instance, last year's premiere was aired on April 6 after the network's late-winter shows. According to E Weekly, HBO airs its original programming usually for two hours on one night a week.
There are no announcements made on the premiere night for GoT Season 6. Yet, knowing that the winter programs contain 10 episodes each, it is impossible for "Game of Thrones" Season 6 to premiere in early April or mid-April, even if all three shows ran for 10 weeks straight.
Airing GoT Season 6 premiere might happen in late April at the very earliest, according to the publication. It noted that the show could return on April 17, if the network paired it with the winter comedies. That is, if HBO decided to no longer air "Game of Thrones" with "Veep" and "Silicon Valley," something the network has done for the past two years. It is likely that HBO will want the fantasy series to air along with the comedy shows, and use their premieres to cross promote each other, the site added.
"Game of Thrones" fans might wish for some patience this holiday season with the possibility of the show's season 6 premiere being pushed back in early summer. But as other devoted fans will say, it surely is worth the wait.
