Taylor Swift is being sued yet again for $42M, this time for allegedly copying her "Shake It Off" lyrics from another singer.
R&B singer Jesse Graham (real name Jesse Braham) is suing the country pop superstar claiming that she plagiarized certain phrases of the 2014 platinum hit single from his 2013 "Haters Gone Hate" song. In a BBC report, Graham asserted that he owns copyright for the lines "haters gone hate" and "playas gone play," which are part of the chorus of Swift's "Shake It Off."
The R&B singer's song is comprised of the lines "haters gone hate, players gone play, watch out for them fakers, they'll fake you everyday." These phrases reportedly bore similarities with the pop singer's 2014 hit song. However apart from the lyrics, the two songs no longer have anything else in common.
According to MTV, the 50-year-old singer wanted a writing acknowledgement on "Shake It Off" and a selfie with Swift. However, his requests were denied by the "Bad Blood" singer's camp so he filed a case instead.
The 25-year-old hit maker isn't new to accusations being thrown at her, nor lawsuits being filed against her. This year alone, she has dealt with several other accusations and cases, the first of which involved the Orange County sweatwear brand Lucky 13. They filed an infringement case against the "Blank Space" singer in May for using their brand name on shirts being sold on Swift's website.
Swift was also accused of copying her "Bad Blood" video from the famous K-Pop girl group 2NE1. Swift's video bears a lot of similarities with the group's "Come Back Home" music video that the latter's fans pointed out on Twitter.
The songstress' most recent case involved radio DJ David Mueller, who filed a case in September against the multi-awarded singer after he was allegedly fired from his job following wrong accusations from Swift's camp. The Grammy winner just lodged a counter lawsuit last week.
The singer-songwriter's camp is yet to make an official statement regarding the "Shake It Off" lawsuit.
