It looks like Gina Rodriguez of the hit comedy series "Jane the Virgin" is headed for the big screen with a new sci-film co-starring Natalie Portman.
Recent news has surfaced linking Rodriguez to the sci-film titled "Annihilation," an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer's 2014 novel of the same name. According to The Wrap, a source divulged that the 31-year-old actress is in talks with the producers to star in the sci-fi movie, which also stars the Academy Award winner Portman.
Since the movie is still in pre-production stage, it is unclear which role is being offered to Rodriguez but it is expected to be one of the major roles. Alex Garland of "Ex Machina" will direct under Paramont Pictures while Scott Rudin will produce.
The story of "Annihilation" revolves around a group of women consisted of a biologist (narrator), a psychologist (leader of the group), a surveyor and an anthropologist who undertake a dangerous mission. The film production is expected to start in spring 2016, when Rodriquez is on break from filming "Jane the Virgin." The "Filly Brown" actress has just recently finished filming "Deepwater Horizon" with Mark Wahlberg.
Rodriguez is also being linked to "Star Wars: Episode VIII" directed by Rian Johnson, HNGN wrote. Early rumors have circulated that the "Sleeping with the Fishes" actress is in contention for a major role for the follow up of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." These rumors have now been fueled even more after Johnson started following the actress' Twitter account. John Boyega, an actor starring in "The Force Awakens," also followed Rodriguez on Twitter.
Rodriguez currently can be seen on the second season of comedy series "Jane the Virgin," which airs every Monday night on The CW. In episode 5 of season 2, Rodriguez was seen showing off her dancing skills beside the pop princess Britney Spears to the tune of "Toxic."
