Chris Pine may have a double role in the upcoming Gal Gadot starrer film, "Wonder Woman."
It was confirmed earlier this year that Pine, 35, will play the role of Steve Trevor in the upcoming superhero film. Earlier this week, Cinema Blend got their first look at the characters appearing in the film and saw a picture of newly added actor Saïd Taghmaoui with Pine wearing an early 20th century accouterment. The photo, which was quickly deleted, gave fans a hint that a part of the movie will be set in the past.
The picture confused a lot of fans since it was concluded that Trevor will be in the present day alongside the Amazon warrior, who will be played by Gadot. This led fans to speculate that Pine may not be just acting as Trevor in the movie; he may also be taking up the role of his character's ancestor.
It was rumored that Pine will also be portraying Trevor's grandfather during the movie's flashbacks. Trevor's grandfather lived during the World War I in Themyscira where he met Diana. Trevor's grandfather passed away after helping Diana defeat Ares, the major adversary of Wonder Woman. In the present, Diana meets Trevor and helps her defeat Ares, just like his grandfather did.
This made the timeline seem a little off, as Comic Book noted. In their respective eras, both Trevors will be around 35. Since the flashbacks will take place in 1918, the old Trevor would have been born in the early mid-1800s. A great-grandfather would likely make more sense since the timeline of the family doesn't quite line up but it is not possible for Pine's age to have a grandfather born that long ago. It is very unlikely for this to happen.
Actor Lyle Waggoner also played two roles of the Trevor Family in "Wonder Woman TV" series. He played Steve Sr. in the first season's World War II setting and Steve Jr. in seasons 2 and 3, 30 years later.
"Wonder Woman" is one of the several superhero films that Warner Bros. will release in the next few years. The production reportedly has started filming, and the movie is slated to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
