ABC Family’s ‘Shadowhunters' Series Releases Four TV Spots before Show’s Premiere in 2016

"Shadowhunters" TV spots were released by the production prior to the series premiere on ABC Family in early 2016.

"Shadowhunters," based on the bestselling novel series "The Mortal Instruments" by Cassandra Clare, was picked up by ABC early this year. The production for the TV adaptation was quickly set in motion. According to TV Series Finale, the show has already wrapped up filming the entire first season and as a preparation for the premiere, ABC released a trailer and four TV spots to acquaint the viewers with the story.

In the "Shadowhunters" preview, it would seem that the season would delve into Clary Fray's (Katherine McNamara) discovery that she is more than just a regular 18-year-old girl. Just like in the film adaptation, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," viewers would see Clary finding out that she is part angel and how that revelation would quickly escalate into her joining the Shadowhunters in the hopes of finding out who took her mom, Jocelyn (Maxim Roy).

Much has been shown in the teasers, including how Clary's mom hid the truth from her about being a Shadowhunter. Her mom sought the help of Magnus Bane (Harry Shum, Jr.) to erase a young Clary's memories then the mother-daughter tandem lived like ordinary people. "Shadowhunters" Season 1, based on the teaser, will also show how Clary will start training to be able to join the team in vanquishing the evil that roam the Earth.

Also, the TV spots subtly explored the friendship of Clary and Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende). For fans of the book, it would not be a surprise that there could be something more to the friendship than meets the eye. Simon likes Clary more than she thinks he does and the teaser gave a slight leg-puller on that.

On the other hand, when Clary learns about the Shadowhunters, she becomes attached to one of them, Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood). The trailer also gives viewers a sneak peek on this relationship.

"Shadowhunters" will premiere on Jan. 12, 2016 on ABC Family, also known as Freeform.
