"Days Of Our Lives" star Greg Vaughan, who is famously known as Eric Brady, talks about his character's exit on NBC's soap opera.
Vaughan had an exclusive interview with Serial Scoop wherein he revealed that he is no longer part of the cast of "Days Of Our Lives" and his last air date will be mid-April.
According to Soap Central, it came as a shock to a lot of Vaughan's fans and viewers of "Days" to hear such news. However, Vaughan's shared that this is just the "tip of the iceberg" on what is bound to happen in the coming months to Eric.
Vaughan revealed that he is already done taping his scenes and that he is no longer contractually on the show. But then Greg shared that the story is spectacular and he said that "All the pieces start slowly coming together, making a great storyline and show."
Greg then continued to talk about his character and said that "I feel very comfortable with stating that my character Eric's journey isn't over. It just takes a direction that I think is going to be good for the character, and the show."
He compared to other dramas such as his favorites "The Sopranos," "24," or even "Dexter" and explained that someone needs to die in order to keep the viewers tuned in for something more.
"I'm not saying Eric is or isn't going to die, but he will go down a path taking him off the canvas. Because of his downward spiral affecting many, many other characters, and intersecting stories within Salem, I think it is great storytelling," says Vaughan.
Vaughan explained further that Eric is an integral character in "Days" and said that "this is something that I think is a surprise to Eric's character, and the viewers which they will not see coming."
Soap Shows said that Eric is now on a darker path with his alcohol addiction and that storyline leads to his exit on the show. "Alcohol is a serious addiction, and a dangerous path for many who battle this disease, but it's something I learned a lot more about before going down this road with Eric," explains Vaughan.
"Sometimes there has to be a sacrificial lamb, and my name was drawn. So, instead of taking it on a personal level, I looked at it as an actor. What I saw was [Eric] as the most unpredictable pick of the characters on the canvas, making it somewhat the right choice, and an opportunity to go out in style."
Greg then explained that the extent of the storyline did not come into play for him right away, until he was informed that "they wanted to take Eric off the canvas."
And as for his fans who were upset when they heard the news about his exit on "Days," this is what Vaughan got to say, "Words can't express enough my gratitude of love I have for every individual I've embraced along my career. Yes, they will be upset for obvious reasons, and I know that this news comes as a surprise. But, not just my fans, all our viewers are the greatest voice I think, so let their voices be heard. I'm only one of many who creatively come together to make this show (Days of our Lives) successful, and hopefully [the network will] keep it on the air for many years to come."
