"Supergirl" has found another foe in Italia Ricci's character, Silver Banshee.
The 29-year-old TV actress, who was known for her role as the cancer-stricken April Carver in the ABC drama "Chasing Life," will portray the antagonist of Melissa Benoist's superheroine in the CBS series. According to Entertainment Tonight, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced the latest "Supergirl" casting update.
"We are so excited to be working with Italia," Kreisberg said in a statement. "We've been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role."
Ricci will play as Siobhan Smythe. She is recently hired by Cat Grant (Calista Flockheart) to be part of the Cat Co. Worldwide Media. She will become Kara's enemy at the office and her alter-ego's newest nemesis, Silver Banshee.
The outlet also reported that Ricci's role will appear as a recurring character starting on the 14th episode of "Supergirl."
According to DC Comic's Wikipedia page, "Silver Banshee" has sonic power abilities such as killing her enemies using her powerful voice and manipulating sounds. Aside from that, she was noted for having "a gift for languages" that helped her understand even animals. She also has "superhuman strength, agility, speed, endurance, and a high degree of resistance to physical and energy-based attacks."
This is not the first time that Silver Banshee appeared in the TV world.
In 2010, TV Guide reported that actress Odessa Rae was tapped for an episode of "Smallville." Rae's role was described as the vengeful Gaelic heroine version of Silver Banshee, who was accidentally released from the underworld.
The TV actress was last seen in the Lifetime TV movie "Fatal Memories" as Sutton Roberts. Her recent film credits include "Don Jon," "The Remaining" and a cameo role in "The Duff."
Ricci joins her longtime boyfriend Robbie Amell for having superhero roles with her portrayal of Silver Banshee. Amell previously got the role of Ronnie Raymond or "Firestorm" in "The Flash." The couple got engaged in 2014 after eight years of being together.
Our newest supehero TV couple can't help it but gush about Ricci's new role on Twitter. Amell started off by retweeting a news article and added a playful caption. Ricci, on the other hand, joined in the fun and highlighted her superhero powers.
