Eco-friendly house designs have become the trend especially since winter is coming. During winter, some diseases would be much more difficult to avoid. So, it's better to prevent house owners from getting sick by making their own homes healthier than before.
Mamta Khubani and Mankeerat Sing, architects from a Delhi-based architect firm, said that people are encouraged to use eco-friendly paints as a start of transforming their houses to a more environment-friendly homes.
"Eco-friendly paints may be 10-12 percent costlier than normal paints but they are recommended because of their health benefits."
These kinds of paints help the household from getting sick due to the lesser chemical substances mixed. The substances like the Nerolac Impressions Eco Clean and low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) contained the paints.
For those who are not familiar with the Nerolac Impressions Eco Clean paints, these are the odourless paints and the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) is a chemical hugely contributing to memory loss and large amount of carcinogens. In eco-friendly paints, the VOC is low so it is healthier compared to the normal paints.
Aside from these, eco-friendly paints prevent house owners and even the painters from any forms of skin diseases, skin allergies, irritation and headaches especially this coming winter, according to India Times.
"Changing season spells trouble for people with respiratory problems. Asthma patients have to be extremely careful while renovating their house since dust can spur attacks," Dr. Adity Puri of GTB Hospital stated.
In addition to painting, although experts are trying to call the attention of the people to use more eco-friendly paints to renovate and repaint their houses, it doesn't mean that they should embrace out of style paints.
They can still use the trendy neutral colors like the others did to their own house walls. The architect duo -- Khubani and Singh said, "Don't use dark-colored paints as they make the space look small and require extra lighting. Go for pastels and light up your house."
In terms of lighting, Nilanjan Bhowal advises people to use eco-friendly light bulbs than using the non-LED lights or solar lights. He explained that these types of bulbs consume lesser electricity compared to those non-eco-friendly light bulbs. At the same time, the LED types of lighting in the house bring much more convenience to house owners.
Bhowal trashes the belief about using LED lighting system in the house. He said," You can use lights that consume less voltage rather than dimmers. It is just a false belief that dimmers save electricity.
"In lieu of that light sensors can be used since they automatically turn off the tube lights and bulbs during the day to save electricity."
"Whenever I have guests over, I light up the blue lights when we are chatting to create a soothing, yet classy ambience and change it to yellow or white during dinner. These LED lights are not only eco-friendly and cost efficient but have impressed all my guests," Ritu Khurana, 29, software engineer, said.
In general, the architects are now encouraging people to try redesigning or renovating the house to a more eco-friendly home by embacing eco-friendly house designs. The call is to prevent people to get healthier this coming winter season this year. This can be done through using eco-friendly paints and lighting system at home.
