"Sons of Anarchy" alum Katey Sagal is joining to FOX's comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as Jake's (Andy Samberg) mother.
Katey has been cast to play as Karen Peralta, Jake's MIA mum, and she will appear early 2016, TVLine has reported. But it looks like a family reunion is under way for Jake because his father Roger (Bradley Whitford) is also returning. As per "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" story, Roger left Karen when Jake was only 7 years old.
Katey played Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax Teller's mother, in "Sons of Anarchy" (2008-2014). In addition to that, she is also known for her portrayals in "Married with Children" (1987-1997), "Futurama" (1999-2013) and "8 Simple Rules" (2002-2005). She recently appeared in "The Bastard Executioner" as Annora of the Elders.
In a related B99 casting news, Entertainment Weekly has reported that Charles' (Joe Lo Truglio) ex-wife Eleanor has been cast in the person of Kathryn Hann ("The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"). Eleanor, who cheated on Charles, will appear in the Jan. 5 episode.
Other guest stars set for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" include Bill Hader ("Inside Out"), Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation"), Niecy Nash ("Clean House") and Archie Panjabi ("The Good Wife").
Meanwhile, a "Sons of Anarchy" spin off is on the works, currently called "Mayan Project." It is a prequel to the "Sons of Anarchy" and will bring back some of the characters from the hit TV series. Details for the prequel are still scant and Katey's return is not yet known. Recent reports indicate that the storyline of the "Mayan Project" will center on John Teller (to be played by Brad Pitt) and Piney. Even Charlie Hunnam is not yet confirmed to reprise his role as Jax Teller.
"Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter has confirmed the prequel following the cancellation of "The Bastard Executioner."
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" mid-season finale airs this Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on FOX.
