The recognition that USA Network's hit series "Mr. Robot" is highly on top and now its creator and showrunner Sam Esmail is expected to direct all 10 episodes of the sophomore season.
According to CarterMatt, this huge break that Esmail got is something rare. It is unusual for a show creator to also be the one to sit on the director's chair. Variety even said that this approach reflects Esmail's vision on how he was able to make the show distinctive. Chris McCumber, USA Network President, said that "We are really happy that people are seeing the same things that we see in a show that we love so much."
McCumber added, "The competition is so intense - there's so many great shows deserving of recognition and of people's time. It's very hard to break through."
McCumber also expressed how grateful he is to Esmail for sharing his vision about "Mr. Robot" and making it standout amidst the tight competition as he said, "You have to find voices that are relevant and great storytellers and have such a specific vision."
He then added, "In Sam we have found that."
According to Digital Trends, Esmail directed three episodes during the first season, one of which is the season finale. And now, Esmail is ready to expand his full creative control over the series as he takes the helm for "Mr. Robot" Season 2 which will start shooting in New York next year. But for now, the writers are reportedly starting to work on the stories for the next chapter of Elliot's life.
With the success that the first season of "Mr. Robot" got then all the more reasons for USA Network to put faith on Esmail. It has been reported that the show got three bids during Golden Globe which include best drama series and also for stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater. Aside from that, Malek also grabbed a SAG Awards nomination.
Screen Rant shared that with the strong ratings, praises from critics and Golden Globe nominations the first season of "Mr. Robot" got, it is expected that the show will earn more viewers when season 2 begins airing.
