iPhone 7 Rumors: What Users Can Expect from Apple's Upcoming iPhone Aside from Being Waterproof?

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus earlier this year were found to have a built-in gasket inside that was said to help resist water infiltration, but Apple did not mention it during the presentation. Does this mean the iPhone 7 will be waterproof?

According to some unconfirmed reports from the BRG, the iPhone 7 will possibly be waterproof. Although the company is not commenting on reports like these, their actions show that they are really going to work for a waterproof iPhone at some point in the future, just like what they did to the iPhone 6s, though it is not fully water resistant.

Thus, the Apple has several patents that outline ways of protecting the device's internal parts from being infiltrated by water, including ways to get rid of liquid from ports and openings and ways of sealing potential waterways automatically when not in use. Apple is also working on a self-healing technology for ports that could make the iPhone water resistant.

The article also said that the Business Insider discovered a new patent application called the "Electronic Device with Hidden Connector." It is a technology that would automatically seal an opening, like headphone and USB ports. It is said that it will use an elastomer that would be able to expand and seal the opening the moment the connector is removed. This will protect the opening from accidental water damage since liquid would have no way to get into the device, assuming that the elastomer completely sealed-off before any liquid gets into it.

According to Mac World, there are also reports that the iPhone 7 is expected to be 4.7-inch and iPhone 7 plus will be 5.5-inch in size. It may also be thinner by cutting out the headphone socket or totally removing it, forcing users to use wireless Bluetooth headphones or connect via Lightning port. Plus, it could provide a better battery life than the iPhone 6 and 6s Plus with wireless charging which will support waterproofing.

Apple is still silent about it so users will still have to speculate and wait until the iPhone 7's launching, which probably will be in summer 2016.
