Real Estate Trends In 2016: Tiny Homes May Be A Common Trend For House Buiding Next Year

Building tiny homes is starting to become one of the most popular ideas for housing this year. For some, the obvious reasons are: they consume less space and they are also much more affordable. With those in mind, developers have started to consider building more and more tiny houses for next year.

Before the end of 2015, news about constructing tiny houses for the city's homeless veterans were reported. According to The St. Petersburg Tribune, these houses were built within St. Petersburg for a fundraising campaign. The tiny houses were smaller than 200 square feet. Each average tiny home is around 186 square feet and costs $25,000.

At the moment, the developers were having dinner with the volunteers this month to convince the officials including Mayor Rick Kriseman that this project can be possibly pursued. They just need financial pledges and plenty of volunteers.

"I'm telling you man, these people are really excited," said George Bolden, president of Celebrate Outreach group.

St. Petersburg's Mayor Rick Kriseman has already imposed his goal of providing homes to these homeless veterans as part of US President Barack Obama's challenge to the nation's mayors last year. In order to meet this, he has to develop tiny houses for them.

In the last month, group of teenagers initiated building a tiny house village for the homeless and they named it "new homeless encampment." Based from the report, these houses will not have the same amenities compared to the normal types of houses but they're already good to stay. They are also waterproof and the rooms are lockable, quite convenient for two people.

Like Bolden, Monica Joe of the Low Income Housing Institute envisioned to provide permanent housing to these people. "We really want to get people into these houses with the idea that they will transition into permanent housing."

Aside from charity purposes, tiny houses were built this year shaped like a prefab "The Hobbit" houses primarily for residence. No charity involvement. They are built for both environmental advocacy and attraction.

In general, these types of houses are now a trend in housing development, surely building tiny homes would continue to rise in 2016.
