NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics in Need of a Star Player, Could it be Memphis Grizzlies’ Marc Gasol?

The Boston Celtics wrapped up the most memorable weekend of their early season last Friday, Dec. 11 at the TD Garden, where they almost beat the undefeated Golden State Warriors.

According to Comcast SportsNet New England, the Bolton Celtics have now won 10 consecutive games on the second leg of back-to-backs, and that says everything about this team. However, on the first leg of those 10 back-to-backs, they are 2-8. Overall, the Celtics are not good enough; they still need a star.

Meanwhile, rumors have it that the Memphis Grizzlies are on the brink of blowing up, according to Yibada. There are reportedly some issues going on with their coach, Dave Joerger.

The Boston Celtics are a team that is definitely watching these types of situations. If a team would blow up, they are ready to dive in with the assets to offer, as the Celtics Blog points out.

"Who knows if that (rumor) has any legs to it, but if it does, maybe ownership is ready to scrap what they have now for a monstrous trade package," Celtics Blog's Kevin O'Connor stated. Marc Gasol, 30, is a legitimate star two-way center and would be a terrific system-fit with the Celtics, he added.

Gasol has an average of 16.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.7 steals, 2.8 turnovers, and 1.2 blocks in 26 games where he is playing for an average of 34.8 minutes per game this season. He did very well against the Washington Wizards on Monday where he had 24 points, 12 rebounds, one steal, six assists and three blocks in 39 minutes.

The Sacramento Kings had the same issues earlier this season involving DeMarcus Cousins. There are rumors that the Boston Celtics were eyeing for Cousins, but the Kings apparently wanted to keep him no matter what.

On the other hand, Gasol may even be a better prospect. He is better at defense and could lead in the middle that the young Celtics need, whereas Cousins could not do that role at this time.
