"Outlander" lead stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were named as Best Couple of the Year by MTV, for their characters as Jamie and Claire in the hit series. MTV described the roles as "not only two wonderfully giving people on their own, they also make up one of the most refreshingly sexual -- and also, refreshingly adult -- relationships on television."
Based on Diana Gabaldon's novels, "Outlander's" Jamie and Claire found romance amidst troubled times during 18th century Scotland, despite Claire being from the 1940s.
"Their passion comes from genuine, mature love, and we love them (and Starz!) for it," MTV added.
Heughan and Balfe beat out some stiff competition, topping the list ahead of "The Walking Dead's" Maggie and Glenn. Other TV couples included in the list were Hanna and Caleb from "Pretty Little Liars," Stefan and Caroline of "The Vampire Diaries," and Captain Hook and Emma Swan from "Once Upon a Time."
"Outlander" has had a successful first season. Aside from gaining a cult following from millions of fans, the show has also received numerous nods from award-giving bodies this year. It earned three nominations in the upcoming Golden Globes awards, including Best Actress for Balfe and Best TV Drama.
Scotland Now also reported that Radio Times awarded "Outlander" as Sci-Fi and Fantasy Show Champion of 2015, taking in over 70 percent of the total vote, boxing out Netflix and Marvel's "Jessica Jones."
"Outlander" Season 2 is well on its way, and the show has been teasing its fans with snippets, merchandise, and other fun facts. In Season 2, Jamie and Claire will travel from Scotland to France, in an attempt to change the history and stop the Jacobite Rebellion. The couple's relationship will be tested, especially when Claire learns that she's pregnant.
"Outlander" Season 2 is set to premiere in April 2016.
