A new teaser image inspired by the Last Supper and a final release date are now available for the History Channel's historical drama "Vikings." The series will return for its fourth season on Feb. 18, 2016 with four additional episodes, creating a total of 20 new episodes for the coming year.
History Channel has revealed that four additional episodes were needed in the upcoming Season 4 of "Vikings" to make the whole season "comprehensive." With the plot of the series leaning into the Golden Age of the Vikings, additional information and scenes had to be included.
Clive Standen, who plays Rollo, initially confirmed the extra episodes that will be included in Season 4, Ecumenical News reports. The latest season will be divided into two parts, with the first 10 episodes to be aired starting February 2016 and the second half later next year.
Meanwhile, the official teaser image from "Vikings" Season 4 features Ragnar seated on his throne with Bjorn, his son, beside him. Aslaug and Lagertha are also seated near Ragnar.
The image has triggered speculations that betrayals are about to happen in Season 4. Four of the characters in the teaser have already betrayed Ragnar.
As Deadline reported, Season 3 of the series ended on a very intriguing note. Ragnar and his army might have succeeded in conquering Paris, but with him dangerously ill, the possibilities of overthrowing him from power, both by his wife Queen Aslaug and son Bjorn, will make Season 4 dangerous for him. Floki, on the other hand, will pay for his brutal actions against Athelstan, a Christian priest close to Ragnar's heart.
Season 4 of "Vikings" returns on Feb. 18, 2016 with 20 new episodes and more conflicts as the struggle for power continues with an ill but dangerously cunning Ragnar Lothbrok ready to defend his throne.
