Last Wednesday, HBO gave the fans of "Game Of Thrones" a great Christmas gift as they revealed that the Blu-Ray set of the season 5 of the hit series includes a 20-minute animated video.
According to Movie Pilot, the short film is about the "Dance of the Dragons" which happened during epic civil war before the "Game of Thrones" took place. Even though they were still ruled by the Seven Kingdoms, the war was between two Targaryen siblings who used their dragons to fight each other for the rightful throne. What happened was very significant to the history of Westeros.
Parent Herald reported that one of the highlights of the short film involves the special feature of Oberyn Martell played by Pedro Pascal who fans saw died during the fourth season. It has been reported that Martell was the one who narrated the short film.
Aside from Martell, the video also features other ghost characters of "Game of Thrones" which include Viserys Targaryen played by Harry Lloyd, Catelyn Stark played by Michelle Fairley, Robert Baratheon played by Mark Addy, Joffrey Baratheon played by Jack Gleeson as well as Shireen Baratheon who was played by Kerry Ingram.
Shireen's voice was also heard during the emotional scene with her father, King Stannis Baratheon played by Stephen Dillane. Shireen said as she described the Targaryen family civil war, "Brothers fought brothers. Dragons fought dragons."
Dave Hill revealed to IGN that "When HBO and Adam Vadnais broached the idea of adapting The Dance of Dragons for the Blu-ray special features, I was thrilled. I loved the story as George had written it and felt honored to help bring an animated version to the fans."
Hill added, "Every year I try to keep the scripts worthy of the incredible work that I know to expect from Adam and his team. This year, more so than ever, they've set the bar astronomically high with the Dance of Dragons featurette. Winter will eventually come, but not the day that Adam and his team fail to amaze me."
Meanwhile, given this surprise video release a lot of fans are hoping that "The Winds of Winter" will soon be released as well. It was previously reported that George R.R. Martin's book is rumored to be released late 2016 or early 2017. Fans still hope that surprise news about the actual release date of the book will happen sooner than expected.
"Game of Thrones" Season 5 is set to be released on Blu-ray on March 15, 2016.
