Donald Trump Says He Will Spend $2 Million Per Week For TV Campaign Ads

Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, is saying goodbye to free media to fuel his campaign and openly states that he is willing to pay $2 million a week for television campaign ads, a report from The Guardian said.

Trump will never rely on free media anymore and will spend this much money in the first three voting states. This he told his assistants onboard his private jet on Tuesday.

"I don't think I need to spend anything. And I'm very proud of the fact that I've spent the least and achieved the best result," the presidential candidate told reporters during a rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa. "I feel I should spend. And honestly I don't want to take any chances."

Trump is currently leading at the national Republican preference polls however his lead has dissolved in Iowa where Texas senator Ted Cruz is at the tops thanks to the backing of a strong evangelical conservative voting group in the state.

Trump claims that he has spent nothing on TV ads to date and just around $300,000 on radio ads which are far less than other presidential candidates according to Kantar Media's CMAG. He once considered advertising on TV and even said that he is willing to spend anything just to win the Republican nomination but so far he has been a frugal candidate.

Trump also said that he is self-funding his campaign but in reality, most of his money comes from donors. They send him checks and buy his products online.

"I'll be spending a minimum of $2m a week and perhaps substantially more than that," he said and even added  "If somebody attacks me, I will attack them very much and very hard in terms of ads."

The candidate also believes the thousands who attend his rallies such as the 3,000+ in Council Bluffs, will pick him for president. Iowa's caucuses begin the 2016 voting on February 1.
