Christopher Nolan's success as a director is undeniable and even casual moviegoers may recognize his name. After all, he's the one responsible for "The Dark Knight" trilogy, "The Prestige," "Interstellar," "Inception," and the surreal but thought-provoking "Memento." So after this string of hits, what's the logical next step for the critically-acclaimed director? Rumors spread that Nolan is preparing himself for a World War 2 film.
We've recently learned via Screen Rant that Chris Nolan is apparently planning a project that is going to be set in the World War 2 era. The film will focus particularly on an event dubbed "Operation Dynamo," the evacuation of Allied Troops together with the British Expeditionary Force (or the B.E.F.) from Dunkirk, France from May to June, 1940. The said historical mission was approved after it was reported that German forces surrounded Belgian, French, and British troops during the Battle of France. About 140, 000 Belgian and French troops, together with about 198, 000 British troops were rescued as a result of the mission.
Speculations regarding Nolan's latest film were fueled by an announcement recently made by Dunkirk's Mayor, Patriece Vergriete, saying that a "famous director" will start filming a "Hollywood blockbuster" somewhere in Northern France this 2016. Add to this the reports by a French newspaper ("La Voix Du Nord") - pertaining to Chris and his brother Jonathan's recent visits to Dunkirk and how they get "absorbed in the territory" and the results of the conflict - and you got a rumor worthy of following upon.
Michael Caine, an actor who is frequently seen in Nolan's films, was also reported as saying that the director is working on a "secret screenplay," as Follow News reports.
Evidence is strong that Nolan is now working not only on his first war-themed film, but also the first one based on or inspired by actual events. The movie is scheduled to release on July, 2017. Stay tuned for more updates until then!
