CES 2016 Updates: LG Introduces an 18-inch ‘Foldable’ OLED Display That Can Be Rolled Like a Newspaper

LG will present its newest innovation - a foldable 30R 18-inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel that can be rolled like a newspaper - at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada this week.

LG, a South Korean consumer electronics company that made a name worldwide for its high tech appliances and devices, will showcase lots of other products at CES 2016, but the OLED display will quite snatch the attention of everyone, Android Headlines reported.

Fox News described some of the features of the product. Compared to liquid crystal displays, it is said to have a much improved clarity, deeper color saturation and sharper contrast. LG's new technology can reportedly serve as a "compact companion" display for devices that are smaller like smartphones. Complete description of the product has not yet been publicly released.

On the other hand, the electronics giant has been experimenting curved, bendable and flexible types of devices. Proofs of it are the smartphones, the G Flex and G Flex 2, with curved screens launched by the company. Those products didn't give the company much profit but it doesn't stop them to invest again and take things to the next level.

The products that are to be showcased in the CES 2016 are the following:

- new range of large-screen 4K OLED television sets (sizes ranging from 65-inches to 77-inches)

- UH9800, an 8K TV model (8K means the resolution is 7680 pixels by 2160 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 16:9)

- a "paper-thin" 55-inch OLED TV

- 55-inch "double-sided" panel which display two different videos on two sides

Meanwhile, LG's home grown rival, Samsung, has been also in to foldable displays. In fact, they have already applied for patents that has something to do with such foldable devices but they haven't publicly demonstrated a prototype of such things.
