‘Star Wars’ Dethroned ‘Yo-Kai Watch’ Its No.1 Spot in Box Office in 3rd Week

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is now one notch higher, taking the number one spot in Japan's Weekend Box Office. This means that "Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!" stepped down after being the top 1 for 2 weeks.

According to Crunchyroll, "Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!" vacates the number 1 position to "Star Wars" 7th film after occupying the place for straight 2 weeks since its premiere. Report says that "the second all-new Yo-Kai Wacth film earned 374,386,900 yen on 321,594 admissions, making 3.7 billion yen in total so far."

The current earnings of the 2nd film of "Yo-Kai Watch" means it's currently 47 percent of the total domestic gross of the first movie adapted from the RPG. If remembered, the "Yo-Kai Watch the Movie: The Secret is Created, Nyan!" hit the Japanese theater in December 2014.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on the other hand has already earned 6.4 billion yen on 4.1 million ticket sales for the last three weeks since its release. It has been noted that the last "Star Wars," titled "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," shown in Japanese theater had earned 9.17 billion yen.

Anime News Network says that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has "ranked #1 in actual money earned at the box office for the third straight weekend." The total number of thickets is 521,980 in 368 Japanese theaters, amounting it a gross sales for 826,655,600 yen or an equivalent of about US$ 6.9407 million. "In 17 days since opening on December 18, it has sold 4.14 million tickets for 6.3998 billion yen (US$53.78 million)."

"Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!" meanwhile has sold "321,594 tickets in 358 theaters for 374,386,900 yen."

Other Japanese movies that made it to the Box-Office hits in Japan are the live-action film ofIchigo Takano's "Orange" manga, "Eiga Chibi Maruko-chan: Italia kara Kita Shōnen,"The "Girls und Panzer" film, "Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Ghost & Drive Chō" Movie Taisen crossover film, and the "High Speed! -Free! Starting Days-" anime film.
