Tiny homes have become a trend and housing developers are seeing the potential of building these homes and creating a tiny community. One San Diego resident has taken a leap and is going to try this new house design and create a small community with 50 homes to be built on the five-acre land that she owns.
Latest news stated that there is now an increasing demand for tiny homes and HGTV even created a show called "Tiny House Hunters" because of this.
Janet Ashforth, founder of Habitats Tiny Homes, said that staying in a tiny home makes a lot of difference compared to staying in a regular-sized one. She disclosed that she wanted to create a small community with a well-kept and functioning neighborhood with 50 homes.
Ashforth said these homes are more than just $25,000 doll houses or backyard children's play forts. "It feels like a real home rather than feeling like a temporary type of shelter," she said. "There's a lot of work that needs to be done."
Ashforth said the community she envisioned is a well-kept and functioning neighborhood that is also environmentally friendly.
The Habitats Tiny Homes founder said the township would reclaim water and provide residents with fresh gardens for food. One of the parcels she has bid upon is located in Hidden Meadow in North County.
There are some people who are not too keen about the project --a tiny home community taking over so much land in a primarily agricultural part of the county.
Ashforth said, however, that she is prepared for naysayers and understands that not everyone likes the idea of a miniature district.
"We are forging new ground and we are pioneering something that's different and people are afraid of change," she said. "People are worried that tiny home communities will become like a nasty trailer park or a tent city or a vagrant camp or a bunch of hippies hanging out."
Ashforth said she has already received eight interested home buyers who have given her their down payments. These potential buyers have a selection of floor plans of which to choose located on the Habitats Tiny Homes website.
