What Hotel Employees Really Do While Serving Guests in Hotels

A recent online community revealed some of the secrets and feelings of hotel staff. Shocking confessions were made by several people which include picking guests' food and lying to guests.

Good Housekeeping cited a report from Whisper, where several hotel employees revealed some of their undesirable behaviors toward guests staying at their hotel. Whisper is an online website where sharing thoughts and feelings can be done anonymously. Although there is no way in knowing if the respondents were indeed hotel staff or if they were really telling the truth, some of the revelations were downright alarming and disgusting at some point.

Some said that they only wash blankets once a year. Some maids reportedly recycle sheets instead of replacing them for the new guests that will be using a room. Others, on the other hand, annoy rude guests by deactivating their key cards just to get even.

Others claimed that they do not usually eat at lunch while working because they already get full picking on the food of guests before they are served. On the other hand, there were others who said that they give a room for free to guests who cannot afford their room rates.

Another confession from a hotel staff featured in Mental Floss revealed several other interesting secrets about the hospitality business. The article revealed that if you pay anything less than $30 dollars a night for a hotel, the average cost for turning over the room would be around $5, which most likely make you wonder if the room was really kept cleaned or not.

The author also claims that hotels usually overbook around 110 percent in the hope of no-shows and cancellations. However, when the odds are not in their favor, they usually send a one nighter, an annoying guest or a reservation from a discounted hotel service to a different hotel. They refund the whole amount plus taxes and gives them a phone call instead.
