Winston Churchill Luxury Yacht for Sale at £1.5million

The luxury yacht that was built for wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill is currently for sale in France for £1.5million, Mail Online reported.

“We’re talking about a unique piece that will be of interest to a collector for its historic character or a sailing fan for its vintage side,” said Laurent Demeure of Coldwell Banker France and Monaco, according to The Telegraph. The company specializes in the selling of luxury castles and villas and has put the yacht on sale for 2 million Euros (£1.5million).

Said yacht is 127-foot featuring three decks that can sleep up to 12 people and can hold up to 60 people. It also includes an on-board bar that was ordered by Churchill because of his love of for drinking and for cigars as well.

For added leisure, the yacht has a Jacuzzi and sun lounger on the top deck area. It also has a captain's room, a meeting room, and a 40-square meter lounge.

The boat which is now called the "Amazon" was built by Thornycroft Shipyard in 1936, before he became Prime Minister. It was originally named as Amazon when it was commissioned by Churchill in 1936 but it was later changed to "Welsh Liberty" and "My Evangeline." But now, it is once again called as "Amazon."

The boat boasts a top speed of 11 knots made possible with its two 700-horse power engines. Amazon has notched up to 4,000 nautical miles since its construction 80 years ago. But after two refits in between the years 1990 and 2005, it was already returned to a pristine condition.

The owner of the yacht, Marielle, has set some conditions for the potential buyer of the luxurious boat since she prefer the buyer to be a collector, a movie producer or a history aficionado "who will honor its dignity,” she told the Le Parisien magazine via Forbes. She even declined when an Arab prince offered to buy it because she didn't agree with what the prince is planning to do with the historical yacht.

But when Churchill became Prime Minister, he would cruise using a newer yacht model that calls Christina.
