Cheap and Quick Ways to Add Value to Your Home

Whether you are looking to sell your current home or you simply want to upgrade its look, you don't have to spend a fortune on a full renovation project. According to real estate agents, most effective upgrades come in inexpensive solutions.

Here are some changes and additions you can implement in your homes to increase its value. Note: nothing in our list is more than $1,000!

Spruce Your Walkway. Or add one, if you don't have it.

Minimum Cost: $830 (via Home Advisor)

"A new path leading to the front door can really elevate the look of your home," real estate broker Robyn Woodman wrote for Trulia. "A walkway is a welcoming feature, beckoning guests (and buyers!) inside to have a look around."

Traditional walkways use bricks but you can choose other materials such as stone, concrete or grass. You can even mix and match materials, depending on your home's style.

Installation cost is dependent on the size and materials used. Natural bricks and stone can be expensive, but you can use them as decorative accents and mix with other materials such as concrete, grass or gravel.

Replace Your Front Door.

Minimum Cost: $200

Complete your home's curb appeal by replacing the front door as well. A new-looking entry gives your home an instant face-lift. Or, if your door is still in shape, consider giving it a fresh coat of paint.

Common entry door materials include steel, wood and fiberglass. While wood is relatively cheaper, most home owners choose fiberglass because it is more durable.

Add New Blinds.

Cost: $200

If your house still has old-school vertical blinds, it's definitely time for an upgrade. Standard blinds can be bought at home improvement stores at inexpensive prices. If your windows are irregular you will have to order custom-made blinds.

A more modern take on blinds are plantation shutters, which look like large wooden blinds that have wide compound louvers.

Replace Fixtures.

Cost: $50-$500

Replacing cabinet handles, lights and faucets are inexpensive ways to give your look a more modern feel. And it doesn't take much effort at all! According to Elle Decor, this can make even the oldest homes look shiny and new.

If you still have some budget left, you can also replace old toilets and install new tiles. These quick fixes don't need to be expensive but are sure ways to get your house looking noticeable again.
