John Irving, the celebrated author, slashes asking price for his mansion in Vermont. The property has gone from $3 million to $1.49 million.
The author of the bestselling novel "Cider House Rules" is now selling his Dorset, Vermont estate to a mere $1.485 million, the WMUR reported. The lovely home was designed by Irving himself with the help of his wife, Janet, in 1989.
When the couple was in the process of building the property, what they wanted to achieve was a perfect mix of a countryside haven and work area. The Oscar-winning author achieved this and more on this wonderful sanctuary at 308 Uphill Lane.
The John Irving abode's listing was first reported in September 2014. Unfortunately, the property never got sold. Barely two years after it went on the market, the estate's price has gone down to a little over 50 percent of the original asking fee.
Potential buyers have really good deal in their hands given the new rate of the property, which has a total lot size of 11.5 acres. The mansion is definitely the epitome of Irving and his wife's dream home since its location and design both provide privacy and sanctuary.
Every room in the house, including the five bedrooms, has a view of the Green Mountains landscape. Even the four-and-a-half bathrooms have a stunning view of the terrain outside. The interior is a perfect embodiment of a countryside escape, from the cherry moldings down to the native Maple floors.
Although the home is expansive, nothing about it is intimidating. Any person can feel right at home in this warm, tranquil abode.
In addition, this seemingly humble property is heaving with features anyone would be thrilled to have in their house. There is a wet bar, an office, wood elevator, expansive gym, and a sauna. Outside, an expansive terrace with stone floors complements the expansive lawn.
The Vermont estate also has a large swimming pool and a tennis court.
John Irving's dream home is listed under Sotheby's International Realty.
